Active Reading for chapters 7-11

Theme: the theme in this could be the repitition and fate, how they are destined to repeat history.

Plot Summary:
chapter seven- The war ended in the beginning of this chapter and CAB comes home.
He is condemned to death and his mother visits him in jail and they catch up on everything and brings him a gun. When CAB is about to get shot his brother Jose Arcadio saves him.
Sofia had twins five months, after Arcadio was killed, named Jose Arcadio segundo and Aureliano Segundo. Soon Jose Arcadio was Shot in his bedroom while Rebeca was locked in her bathroom. Blood traveled all the wasy the the Buendia house and to Ursula. After washing his body three times they burried him and the smell of gun powder still lingered. Rebeca begins to keep herself hidden in her home and rarely comes out. Gerineldo Marquez declares his love for Amaranta but she rejects him. CAB has a premonition the JAB is going to die and soon enough he does.
Chapter 8- Aureliano Jose Begins to notice things about Amaranta because he is growing up, He finds himself waking up in her room. The two begin to sleep in the same bed naked and chase eachother to corners of the house. Then she ended it. Aureliano jose leaves went with his father. Visitation dies. There were multipule rumors of the daeth of CAB's death. Macondo has a mayor named Jose Raquel Moncadano. Bruno Crespi marries Amparo Moscote. Remedios recieves the name Remedios the beauty. All of Cabs sons come for a baptism and Ursula gives them the name Aureliano with their mothers last name. Ursula discovers that all her sons are the same. At first the are good but when they grow up they are reckless whith a certain fate.
Captain Aquiles Ricardo Shoots Aureliano Jose wishing it was CAB and died right after the shooting. CAB attacks Macondo.
Chapter 9- Amaranta rejects love repeatidly and locks herself in her room. CAB is not welcome in Moncada's wifes house so his bodygaurd burns it down. Gerineldo Marquez tells CAB he is rotting alive. Six lawyers came and stayed with Ursula. The people that came announced that they were fighting for power. CAB decides he is only fighting for power from now on and signs a document. Gerineldo Marquez is accused of treason and condemned to death. Ursula says that if CAB kills him then he she will drag him out from where he is hiding and kill him with her own hands. she tells him that it is just like he was born with a pigs tail. CAB lets GM go and starts to fight for his own liberation. Ursula feels like CAB is a stranger. The two twins were mirror images of eachother. CAB begins to forget people and things even memories of Remedios are rare and he can not find affection for his mother. Ursula feels like her son is going to die soon and she wants him to remember them. CAB shoots himself but misses his heart and does not die. Ursula fixes the house and invites soldiers in. A guard was found dead under Remedios the beauty's window.
Chapter 10- It begins with a forshadowing of Aureliano on his deathbed remembering seeing his first son. He named him Jose Arcadio and his wife Fernanda agreed. Ursula began to realize the similarities between all the Aureliano's and all the Jose Arcadio's. The twins were a lot a like and they were givin bracelets and dressed in different colors with their initials on them. They would always try to confuse people by switching shirts. Ursula wondered that if in one point in their tricky game they switched and made a mistake and changed forever. If one drank lemonade the other could tell if it needed sugar. When they grew up their differences were easier to see. Aureliano Segundo became interested in Melquides old room and he spent most of his time in their talking to the ghost of Melquides and reading his old books. Jose Arcadio Segundo was fascinated by persecution until he discovered that the people were burried alive. He soon became a cockfighter. A women named Petra cotes was sleeping with both twins and didn't even know. Aureliano believed that she was his luck that made the animal breed. The fact that his mother bothered him about wasting champagne he pasted all his bills onto the house which made it mosque like and threw the rest into the streets. Ursula asked God to make them poor but he gave her the opposite when some men left a plaster saint joseph filled with gold coins. Jose Arcadio Segundo tried to create a boatline then set off on a journey like JAB's. Ursula thinks it is repeating. Men tried so hard to see Remedios the beauty. A man at church would always bring her flowers but she was not interested , she rejects many people. Remedios the beauty was queen for a carnaval and while it was going on strangers ( an intruder queen named Fernanda) came through and started shooting. He took Fernanda to his house where Ursula took care of her Six months later Aureliano Segundo goes to find Fernanda and marries her in Macondo.
Chapter 11- Aureliano Segundo's marriage was almost broken after two months because his photo taken of Petra cotes dressed as the queen. Fernanda left but he succeeded in making her come home. Aureliano did not tell petra cotes that he married. He tried to make petra cotes break by feigning anger. Fernanda's parents treated her as if she were really becoming a queen and spent most their money on her. She had no clue about the war until they took her to Macondo. Ursula thinks that Aureliano Segundo and Fernanda's relationship is a repeat of hers because they did not sleep together for a while. Fernanda is innocent and AS makes fun of her for wearing a night gown. Fernanda begins to take over the house and makes it like her ancestor ways. Every december he father would send a box of something and one December a box came with her father inside. All CAB's sons come to visit for three days and go to church where the Father puts a cross in ashes on their forheards that would not come off. The only son who stayed was Triste who was looking for a house and entered Rebeca's home then was faced to here with a pistol pointing at him. Him and a brother that came back helped fix the house up and she paid them. Triste wants to make a railroad so he leaves for over 8 months and returns with a train and the people of Macondo are shocked and scared by the new Railroad.

chapter 7
(quote 1 pg132/133) "They scrubbed him so much that the arabesques of his tattooing began to fade.....and even then the smell could be perceivedon the streets.." no matter how much they wash him his sins or his presents will not go away.

(quote2 pg 135) "Balancing on the edge of the suprises of a war with no future.." The war was destined to fail and it was from the beginning that it was not going to get them anywhere.

Chapter 8
(quote1 pg 146) " He created an atmosphere of confidence that made people think of the war as an absurd dream.." If the people forget it will probably repeat because when there is no knowledge than things turn out bad and they just happen all over again.

(quote2 pg 152) "They're all the same..at first they behave..and as soon as their beards appear they go into ruins." when the Buendia boys grow up they always cause chaos or do things that disapoint Ursula, it is a repitition of the Buendia fate.

Chapter 9
(quote 1 pg 161) "Colonel Gerineldo Marquez was the first to perceive the emptiness of the war."
The emptiness of the war could mean there was no passion behind it, that they were fighting for nothing. fighting for something that only leads to failure.

(quote 2 pg165) "you're rotting alive." This could represent not only the rotting of CAB's heart but the rotting of Macondo. Macondo is rotting alive because it is falling apart and everything bad is happening but it isn't completely gone yet.

Chapter 10
(quote 1 pg188) "although she was already one hundred years old...had determined the downfall of their line." At one hundred she figures out the downfall. it hasn't been one years of solitude yet but her being onehundred could relate to the title.

(quote 2 pg193) "it's as if time had turned around and we were at the beginning again." Ursula see's that everything is repeating and she feels like she has seen it all before. this is a motif of repitition.

Chapter 11
(quote 1 pg222) "This innocent yellow train that was to bring so many ambiguities and certainties so many pleasant and unpleasant moments, so many changes, calamities, and feelings of nostalgia to macondo." this forshadows that the train is going to bring bad and good things to Macondo. It kind of represents the men of Macondo how they are innocent but then bring ruin and also good, and new things to Macondo.

(quote 2 pg211/212) "The doors of the house, wide open from dawn until bedtime, were closed ..and in the end they were closed for good." The Buendia house had open doors which could represent opportunities or being welcome. Now that they are closed that could mean closed opportunities or that there is no more welcome.
